Brasilia Sightseeing And Day Trips Outside Of The City

There is a lot to see and do in the city, but there's more Brasilia sightseeing than just the city's architecture. To see some of the out-of-the-way Brasilia sightseeing places, get out of town. Here are some of the best day trip ideas for places to see outside of the city.

Day Trips In Brasilia

- Check out the waterfalls. Itiquira waterfall is about one and a half hours from Brasilia, near the town of Formosa. It is stunningly beautiful, and in addition to walking tours, you can go diving into the basin below. The area around the waterfall is pretty as well, with reddish tablelands and hills. The best time to go is during the dry season, from July to September.

- Go swimming in Parque Nacional. Much closer to the pilot plan, the Parque Nacional has famous fountains and mineral springs. There is a huge mineral lake that you can go swimming in, or you can just walk the park and enjoy the native vegetation and scenery.

- It's a bit of a drive, but you can head to Caldas Novas, the biggest hot springs in Brazil. It takes about 4 hours by car, but you'll be blown away by the natural beauty, and you can take a dip in the natural hot springs. The region is also famous for its tasty mangoes.

- Check out Pirenopolis. If you want to get away from the modern hustle and bustle of Brasilia, this is a small town about 160 kilometers away. It's quaint and quiet, and full of wonderful colonial architecture, making it quite a contrast to the big city. It is cozy and cheap, with great restaurants and lots of unique shopping opportunities.

- If you want to buy some local produce, check out the marketplace in Guara. Guara is one of Brasilia's satellite cities, and the marketplace is a little known secret to Brasilia tourists. You won't find it on any Brasilia sightseeing map. Here you'll find fresh produce, spices, coffee and other locally grown goods from the Brazilian countryside. The marketplace has stalls open Thursdays to Sundays.

Rental Cars In Brasilia

The best way to get out of town and see the faraway sights is to rent a car. This costs a bit of money, but it's worth it to see things off the beaten path. There are car rental places at the airport, but they are known for charging more than the smaller rental car places downtown; sometimes they charge double!

You will have little trouble renting a car after you get to Brasilia, so there is no need to make a reservation online before. Check out the yellow pages or information services at your hotel, and you can call a few places to compare prices. You'll find most major chains like Hertz represented in a city as large as Brasilia
